Goatfell hill race - 2006

The ‘mad’ bunch before the race with GoatFell hidden by thick mist in the background

From the left - Mary Miller, Jim Sneddon, Billy Richardson, Ian ‘half hour start’ Hamilton, Dougie Connery, Colin Miller, Tommy Begley, Jim White, Findlay Dowell, Ian McManus.

One of Irvines finest on the roads and cross-country, Billy Richardson decided to give Goat Fell a go.  After turning in third place at the top and losing 21 places on the decent he has decided to stick to road and cross-country. ‘I had to find out if I was any good on the hills’ - now you know!

Colin Miller who also had a good ascent, turning in 7th place but went better than Billy by losing 23 places on the descent.

Tom Begley a real Irvine AC hill runner having his best run in the race - he must be disgusted with all those amateurs in the club losing all those places in the easy downhill bit.

Dougie Connery having just turned 40 thought it would be a good idea to do the Goatfell race - we still have not received his verdict yet - but initial reaction doesn’t look good for doing it again.

Jim Sneddon doing his second Goatfell finished ahead of Dougie at the top and decided to wait for him before giving him a hug at the top. Unfortunately Mr Connery did not repay the compliment as he decided to run away from Jim on the descent - well you live and learn

Jim White who only came to watch - aye that’ll be right!  He took home a skint knee and elbow for his troubles

Ian McManus wearing Dan McPhails old hat (Ref : the Vital Spark and Para Handy) - well he’s been on boats.

Mary Miller great on the uphill - c**p on the downhill!  At least she’s got her vest on the right way this year (see last year’s pictures)
